In Miami -

Of Montreal returns to South Florida at Grand Central in Downtown Miami. Kevin Barnes and company were at The Stage last year for a very intimate show with a more scaled down production. You never know what is in store as every tour brings a new show with this collective, but we’re sure they will not disappoint.

Sweat Stock Schedule

Sweatstock5-500x500a

Sweat Records will be celebrating Record Store Day during their Sweat Stock once again. Come pick up your Record Store Day goodies and stay for the music. As in recent years, there will be a Sweat Street Stage. 55th Terrace (street that lines the north side of the block) will be closed off to make room for food trucks and all of you coming out to see some great bands. We are super excited to see The Cost at 3pm on that outdoor stage. The Cost… outside during the day. That right there is enough of a reason to cancel the trip to Home Depot or Bed Bath & Beyond (if there’s time) and just make plans to be at Sweat Records Saturday afternoon. Even you Broward folk… a lot of us are heading to Ft Lauderdale for Block X Blog. Even if you’re hitting up Block X Blog Saturday night, you can still still make some time to give Sweat Records some love. Worst case scenario, you eat an awesome vegan cupcake. I’m sure you’ve had worse Saturday afternoons than that.

So, obviously we really like The Cost, but there are way more bands to see. We are also excited to see Jean Jacket for the first time. The Astrokats during the day… outside. Yeah… that one isn’t slipping by us either. Much more though… Cog Nomen, Beatmachines, Komakazie and how about This Heart Electric getting the killer slot right before ANR? And ANR are on right before Otto Von Schirach! All of these acts live here. If you’re not seeing at least some of them already, you’re missing out. And not only are there peeps like Ray Milian, Mamey Disco, Never Yawn, Juan Basshead & MC Jumanji spinning tunes between sets, but that is JUST the outdoor Sweat Street Stage!

There are TWO MORE STAGES! Sweat Stock goes into the night where it gets nice and loud on the Speedfreek Stage inside Churchill’s with Testokra, Nunhex, The Tunnel, Centuries, Beastplague, Hussy, Last, Reapermanser and Awkward Kisser. We feel like assholes right now because we aren’t familiar with these bands but we are going to have to change that. A band that we have covered more then most is Holly Hunt. Gavin and Betty are one of the most powerful bands on the planet right now. It would be too easy to say “they’re loud”… I mean, yeah. They’re fucking loud. Loud as shit. But… and this is a big BUT… you might still feel the need (cause we sure as shit always do) to stand right up against the Churchill’s Pub stage to watch them be loud up close. Oh… and we didn’t forget about Kenny. We left him for last on purpose. Kenny Millions and Shitstorm will perform as World Of Shit earlier in the night at 8:20pm. How perfect is that name for a Kenny Millions related project? World. Of. Shit.

Out on the patio, Roofless Records takes over again. Local music royalty opens up that stage with Russell Mofsky’s The Gold Dust Lounge at 7pm. Russel and his former partners in crime in Quit were responsible for many young musicians wanting to pick up instruments after catching one of their shows back in the 90s at Churchill’s. They’re followed by  Samsara, Last / Chrome Dick / Humanfluidriot / Togna Bologna, Whitey Alabastard, Blind Texas Marlin, MC Trachiotomy, Sobak Mazouzoute, Tuurd, Popol Gluant, Normads, Penthotal, Dim Past and of course ending with Rat Bastard, giving this entire event his Falestra Squelch of Approval.

Oh… and we can’t fail to mention that there’s going to be free Panther Coffee at Sweat!

Saturday April 20th (Sweat and Churchill’s Pub are RIGHT next to each other, in case you didn’t know)

Set Times For Block X Blog This 4/20 In Ft Lauderdale

blockxblogschedule2013a

Here it is. The Schedule for Saturday’s Block X Blog Music And Arts Festival happening in Downtown Ft Lauderdale at Revolution Live, The Green Room and America’s Backyard. If you’re one of those people who think there is no music local music scene in South Florida, come on out to this and we guarantee you that it will change your mind.

When Jacuzzi Boys hit the stage at The Green Room at Midnight… you’re going to be glad that in a few years, you’ll be able to say “Dude, I was there”. But even before that, you can see Deaf Poets AND Plains. Which… just to see those 2 bands on the same bill on the same day would be cool… to see them play the same exact stage using the same gear in the same hour? From 10pm to 11pm… Deaf Poets AND Plains will play the Revolution Live Main Stage during that hour. Yeah, I know… it’s tough to process if you now those 2 bands. If none of this means anything to you, then trust us on this one and don’t miss Revolution Live between 10pm and 11pm.

Listen… do this… be there when it starts at 6pm. We haven’t seen Protoman, but we’re going to go ahead and trust Phillip Roffman/Subculture and company who put this thing together. When you put Jacuzzi Boys, Deaf Poets and Plains at the same event and then throw in Lavola at freakin’ America’s Backyard? The Gun Hoes at The Greem Room at 8pm? Oh wait… Afrobeta is playing the Revolution Live Main Stage around 12:30am… right after ABDECAF! Boxwood, Millionyoung, Krisp… it doesn’t end.Well… it does end eventually… like at 4am.

Tickets available here.
